Radford University
Undergraduate Research 2022

In the Spring of 2021 during my undergraduate, I participated in an independent study with Dr. Denise Bernardini on vocal pedagogy. As my resource, I used Scott Mccoy's book: Basics of Voice Science and Pedagogy as my study and reference tool. My purpose of taking this study was not just to satiate my own curiosity, but to enhance my knowledge of the vocal mechanism in order to teach others how to use their own. My top priority when teaching voice or choral repertoire is to make sure the practices we use will only lead to healthy production methods. This independent study allowed me to take the deep dive into the pedagogical side of voice that I needed to understand my instrument and that of my students.

Other Research Experience:

Music in Early Childhood Independent Study:

In the Fall of 2021 I did an independent study with Dr. Jennifer McDonel at Radford University on the impact of music in the early childhood setting. This included newborns from fourteen weeks to toddlers that were up to three years of age. All of the research conducted was done at the Radford Early Learning Center in Radford, Virginia. Me and two other colleagues spent a semester planning repertoire that we felt would encourage musical responses. We recorded our data and at the end of the semester made an impact project on our research findings. There is also a interview that was conducted on the research project with me and my colleagues that can be found at the website below.
